[D10 EA] Trusty to the Core (The Triage)

Cole had eschewed his jacket, lugging things here and there. He and a Xexto in a pilot’s jumpsuit were standing at the foot of the ramp to a fairly stock-standard light freighter, waiting for the arrival of expert assistance now that everything was stowed onboard. Nearby an R3 astromech jogged impatiently on the spot, whistling something to the effect of ‘we should just start.’

The final member of the team eventually arrived, his shift having just ended. He stretched and yawned as he walked towards the ship.

"So, this is yours now Doc?" His well-trained eyes scanned the freighter. "Yeah, you know I think this'll do nicely. Hey, I'm Rav." He nodded to the Xexto and the astromech.

The Xexto stepped forward and offered his lower right hand, “folks call me Trusty, and that there,” he pointed over his shoulder with both left hands to the droid, “is Core. Let’s do some work.”

Cole smiled lopsidedly, “thanks for your help, Rav, I’ll owe you a whole carton of beers for this.” The surgeon indicated up the ramp; he was relieved that the Shistavanen appeared to be adapting to his new arm, some part of him had been worried that he would find the tall man-wolf intimidating in the I-can-snap-you-in-half sense, but he was unsurprised to discover he was no less attracted to him. “Ready for the grand tour?”

Rav took the hand and smiled, nodding over at the droid. "Pleasure. Lookin' forward to working with ya." He chuckled at Cole's suggestion of a carton of beer.

"That prescription beer or somethin' good Doc?" He winked and gestured for Cole to begin. "Lead on. Schematics are one thing but until you get on board a ship there's always room for some surprises."

"I'll dig up something better than Republic standard issue," he promised, and led the way onboard.

Trusty and Core had started some of the work, the cargo area was a mess, apart from one corner where some sort of pen had been set up with a daylight globe. A section of wall had been removed to extend the what would be the future medbay into the cargo area, where a kolto tank stood waiting to be connected and filled. A diagnostic bed wrapped in sheets of plastic stood amongst cabinets and benches and other medical accoutrements waiting to installed.

Leading the way over to the diagnostic bed where a blueprint had be spread, Trusty began showing Rav the notes he'd made on the schematic, showing how the existing two-man bunk would be extended and where all the equipment was supposed to go. Cole had probably spent as much on the medbay as most soldiers spent on their signature weapons.

Rav whistled once they reached the site of the new medbay. It was some impressive kit. He followed the Xexto around nodding at appropriate points.

"This looks great Doc. You wanna help us with the installation? Nothing too technical, I'll just tell you what to hold and what goes where. Might help if you ever need to do fault finding."

He took a good look around the area and rolled onto his back to inspect the bed from underneath, where it could be accessed.

“Always willing to get my hands dirty, Rav. I’m happy to help in any way I can.” Cole felt vaguely out of sorts, wearing neither his spectacles or his utility belt; as he ran a hand through his hair, he was distantly reminded of standing on the edge of the huttball court, waiting for the game to begin.

"Could get greasy... Real greasy." His laughter echoed through the ship as they got going with the refit. The Xexto was very useful with his extra set of arms, Cole had steady hands, and Core knew his way around the electrics. With Rav's mechanical expertise it was pretty straightforward, even though the work was technically challenging.

"You got any good music Doc? I got this mix tape from Jo and ain't tried it out yet..." His hairy shoulders shrugged. "Could be dire but we might as well try it out, you game?"

Medbay installation on Cole's ship. Hard Mechanics. Two boosts from armour. One boost for assist. One success from workbench, two advantages from workbench and heavy hydrospanner: 3eP+1eA+3eB+3eD 2 successes, 5 advantage

Final result: 3 successes, 7 advantages

"Fire it up, Trusty," Cole suggested. There was a small triangle of sweat forming on his collar at the beck of his neck, but he was smiling, lopsided but unrestrained. He looked around, the work was well on the way to done, "incredible, Rav," he rubbed at his cheek, leaving a smear of grease, but at least he hadn't gotten it in his hair.
