"Or that she just enjoys them." Z said with a slight shrug. "Bit rescue hostages, then combat with the ruthless enemy, gotcha." Though if he thought about it, it would probably get them killed.

"Oh, there will likely be some things to gain. If I really wanted to think about it I could maybe even name a few." He shrugged. "I mean, almost anything pays better then jedi master. At least in my books."

"If we get her to fight at arm's reach, we may be doing well," Tethys says, unruffled. "She seems to prefer staying clear of the site of conflict. Not at all what I would have expected of a Mandalorian warlord." There's some disdain there--not that Tethys subscribes to the smallest part of the Mandalorians' code, but as best as she understands it their quarry is a hypocrite on top of all her other crimes, and that rankles.

"Unfortunately military intelligence is not my forte," she adds, somewhat reluctantly. "I plan to raise the question with Commander Malcolm at the next staff meeting, though. Considering the damage Varad's games could do to local morale, he may consider it worth his while to do something. Unless you have other plans?"

"I'll find out what I can... I have paths of my own I can take, it might tell me a little bit of what we need to know. Who she usually runs with, where she might be found." Though those channels weren't necessarily legal. "I'd ask you to see if you could get the Commander to free up some operating funds,but I doubt that will go over well."

"Otherwise my plans are rather fluid, though there are a few others I might bring into this. Specialist Rav for instance."

She nods. "He seems like a good being, and very solid. And he knows explosives." The frown lines appear again between her brows as she considers the possible necessity of that. "Fluid is not a problem at this point. The Force will guide us." She taps her fingers on the rock and adds, "She'll have withdrawn from this region by now, anyway."

"I'd assumed as much." He offered with a nod. "Most of the rest of them were gone by morning, she was no reasons to linger." Taking one last drag from his cigarette, he pinched it out between the fingers of his gloves hands, before reaching into his jacket and retrieving a small case. He placed the butt inside and stored it back in his pocket, before looking towards her and offering a smile.

"So, now that we've gotten some of the ground rules settled. When do we meet for dinner?"

She gives him a raised eyebrow and her lips quirk again, somewhere between disbelief and amusement. "The mess hall is there every day, Mr. Varliss. I'm at your disposal."

"The Mess Hall?" He shook his head and sighed. "We'll, never get to know each other there."

"The Rec Hall maybe, but you're likely not awake the hours I'm there." His lips curled into a playful smirk. "So, I suppose we'll just have to remain acquaintances."

She shakes her head slightly. "Just what hours do you keep? In any case, a military camp is not exactly well supplied with dining establishments."

"Late hours usually, mornings really aren't my thing. If you're ever up at midnight, though you can usually find me in the Rec hall though.

"True, but I've been know to cook, and my ship has a kitchen." He raised an eyebrow. "I can even invite a friend or two over, if you're interested."

"Hum. My hours vary. I haven't often spent as much time on one world as this fight promises to take. Not since my school days, at least." Tethys looks back out at the horizon for a beat or two.

"You cook?" Her interest appears to be piqued by this detail, something at least a little out of line with the rest of his self-presentation. "I wouldn't have guessed it."

"Well, if you do find yourself up late, and do make it out, I like to spend my nights playing a little music for those up that late. So feel free to come for a listen, and make some requests if you like." He offered with a easy smile.

"I do." He replied his face taking on a look of faux shock. "Is it really that surprising?" He asked curiously. "I mean, I'd find it more shocking if someone lived on their own and didn't bother to learn how to make at least a few things." His lips curled into a amused smile. "I suppose it really just goes to show a little bit of your honest opinion of me though."

“I’ve flown with independent spacers, and met a few mercenaries. Most weren’t particular about food, provided it met nutritional requirements and could be chased with their intoxicants of choice.” She shrugs one shoulder semi-apologetically. “But if I had been compelled to guess... I suppose I imagined you’d have a servitor droid for your cooking and cleaning. Effortlessness seemed to be a part of your persona, but cooking doesn’t fit there.”

He had to laugh lightly at that. "It seems im successful then, Miss Carrack. Thank you." He gestured to himself, his clothing was pristine, clean, ironed. His tie knotted with a full windsor, beard precisely trimmed, and his hat immaculate. "All this I do myself, without any help from a servitor droid. That I pull it off and make it look effortless, is about the best compliment you could give me."

"In reality though, like most things I do it's a lot if hard work."

"Why bother with it, then?" she asks curiously.

His lips curled into a playful smile. "If you want the answer to that, you can meet me for dinner."

"I'm not going to say too much above myself with that weird fellow on the rock over there." He dipped his head towards Dragh.

"Ah, yes." Tethys looks up and over at the rock and its occupant. "An interesting character. I have an odd feeling about him, but I'm not sure what kind yet."

Shaking her head slightly, she returns her attention to Zanebry. "If you're thinking I'll say no, I choose to call your bluff," she says, lips quirking. "Name your time."

"I'm always wary of people who meditate on rocks in the middle of a recent warzone. Probably because they remind me of monks, and monks always want to sell you something." He mused, turning his eyes back towards Tethys.

"Oh, I wasn't bluffing, Miss Carrack." He offered with a easy smile. "Do you have something to wear? Or should I send something over?" He rather thought she would say she would, but it never hurt to ask. "As for the time, Maybe after we get settled in our new surroundings... The day after we arrive, at about 18:30?" It would be a pretty early meal for him. But that happened from time to time.

"I clean up well enough when I need to, if that's what you mean," she says with a short laugh like a creek flowing over stones. As interesting as it would be to discover what this well-dressed man thought up for her to wear, letting someone else dress her would create a curious power dynamic she'd prefer, on balance, to avoid. "Borrowed clothes are usually too short for me in any case. Eighteen-thirty it is, then."

Her eyes flick up to the man on the rock and back to Zanebry again. "Since you found me meditating on a rock, I'll consider the point there intentional." She spreads her hands, palms-up. "So I will reassure you in advance that I'll bring nothing to sell."

He joined in his own laugh warm and vibrant. "Not exactly, it's more that from time to time people come to me for advice on clothing, it wouldn't be the first time I've helped a young woman look her best." His lips curled into a amused smile. "There are more then a few ladies out there, that don't know how beautiful they really are."

"But, I'll look forward to seeing what you have in store for me at 18:30 sharp."

"Honestly? When I first saw you I thought you were napping, spread out on a rock after a swim. I suppose that's close enough to meditation though." Z replied, offering her a playful wink. "At least for some."

"You're not wrong," she concedes, still amused. "Especially for younglings." She pats the rock affectionately. "This wouldn't be a bad place for a nap. But, as you said... this is a recent warzone. Meditating is one level of indifference to risk. Sleeping is quite another. Though I will concede it was a very peaceful meditation." She half-laughs again.

"While I was a padawan, my Master was a Jedi whose calling is generally to Outer Rim diplomacy. We did have to dress the part every now and then."

He shook his head, a light laugh rolling from his lips. "Alright, Miss Carrack. The next time I see you spread out on a rock, enjoying the sun, I'll remember that you're just very peacefully meditating." He smirked. "Then remind myself you aren't going to try and sell me anything."

"Oh? That's good to know. The majority of Jedi I've met don't wear much outside of robes. but there have been a few that prefer other styles. I'm happy to hear that you are the latter."

"I would not say 'prefer,' exactly, but sometimes the most practical sort of garment is... not always the most practical," she says with a note of humor. "I am sure you know what I mean."

She checks the angle of Bankor's single sun in the sky and reaches for her folded robes. "And sometimes it is," she adds, draping her outer robe around the shoulders of her by-now-dry swimming costume.

"Well, in at least one of the cases I'd say prefer was the actual word..." He shook his head. "But that just arguing semantics." He turned away politely, as she started to put on her robe. It really wasn't necessary, but sometimes it was the though that counts. "Though, I'd say a robe isn't really all that practical honestly..."

Rising to his feet, he took a few moments to straighten his clothes. "As late as it it, we likely should be gettign back though." Z said after a moment, turning back in her direction when the rustle of clothing came to an end. "I'll see you in a few days, Miss Carrack?"

She quirks a brow as he turns away. She's not getting any more undressed, after all. Quite the opposite, in fact. If the afternoon is beginning to cool off slightly and she'd prefer to wear another layer, there's no need for a sudden excess of chivalry... but she supposes it's all part of the same game, and allows herself to be entertained by playing along.

"In a few days, Mr. Varliss," she agrees, smiling and windblown, with salt crystals drying in her hair. It might take a considerable effort of imagination to picture her dressed differently at this moment.

"Excellent." He offered her a charming smile, as he diffed his hat and bent dipped into a bow. He'd place in back before sharply turning on his heel with military precision, and walking away, jacket once again hungover his shoulder.
