[Day 13 - Late Evening] Big Damn Heroes

by Dapper Dog
The streets are filled with people as they take to the streets to celebrate the liberation from the Mandalorians! Fireworks, music, and colorful banners and paper are everywhere along with great amounts of liquor, carousing and general elation!

For the moment all o the sacrifices are worth it, but there is an undercurrent of sadness for those who did not make it to the end and the suffering that will have to be dealt with in the days and months to come. But for now they have this moment.

Galen carefully wove around the crowds on his bike. From the beach, he'd salvaged a hull fragment of the Pride of Kryze. Now, he's was looking for an appropriate location to display it. It wasn't much, but it deserved to placed somewhere where it might last and not simply be washed away or buried in the sand.

Finally, he found a central square with a platform where it could be viewed by the celebrants. He left the fragment there. The names of the resistance fighters who had lost their lives in the fight against Varo had been roughly etched into the metal, standing out prominently.

Pride of the Resistance

Aidjona Trasai
Danston Teaher
Alirene Renccro

Galen wasn't an artist or writer. The memorial was simple and a bit presumptuous. But, it felt right. The locals could easily remove it if they wished. There was also room to add to it.

He rode a short distance away and parked the bike, collapsing and securing it, so he could enjoy the party.

To those who had come to know him it was a rather unusual sight - Specialist Rav Devaroo in his Military Dress Uniform. For a start it didn't have any oil stains on it. Not even a speck of grease. The boots were shiny, matching his robotic left hand that protruded from the sleeve. His secret was vacuum packing and almost never wearing any of it, plus Bartley's Rocket Wax was great for boots.

He looked incredibly smart, and incredibly uncomfortable with the whole thing. For a start the medal rack was just plain embarrassing. He wasn't going to wear it but Sara had insisted. It displayed a raft of commendations, medals of valour, and one that looked suspiciously like the medal they gave out for being killed in action. Then there was the damned collar, he hated collars, made him feel all cooped up. He sighed a little and did his best to look heroic.

Niall was there in full Captain Alderaan mode. He wore his uniform, with cape of course, every inch of him polished and picture perfect. He walked around, smiling, nodding, and giving out congratulations and acknowledgements as appropriate. He paused for a moment, taking a deep steadying breath, before the smile reappeared, and he began spreading cheer once more.

It was time to party, and Chase wasn't spending a party without a drink in hand. Dressed down in less than a uniform she took the time off granted for the parade to just enjoy the festivities. Chatting, laughing, and spilling in the merriment more alcohol than she might have actually drank. Not that it mattered, celebrations were afoot and nothing ran low.

Aran is good at losing himself in a crowd, and exuberant public spectacles touch directly on the things he most likes about sapients. He finds it easy to blend in as not-a-Jedi, just a youth in robes, another celebrant, drinking in the heady mood of a people free and safe once more.

Baesal Zyn wrote:Baesal stood behind the crowds in her Jedi robe, deep in her thougths, wondering what do do next.

He emerged out of the crowd in front of her, and offered a smile much less small and serene than his normal offering. "Baesal!" He bowed, and again it was not his usual, restrained, shallow-and-only-above-the-neck approach. He got his head almost as low as his knees, with a lot of flourishing of his arms and billowing of his robes. He craned up from his low angle. "How does it feel to be a savior?"

Somewhere along with a piano, Lyseil was adding to the celebrations by assisting with music. The Alderaanian princesses had dropped her armored uniform completely and was dressed in a pretty green dress instead, as she played festive tunes on her violin along with the others who had decided to bring music to an occassion like this.

She didn't feel like a hero, and felt no need to stand around in uniform with medals pinned to her chest. Helping people feel happiness and cheer again on the other hand, that mattered more to her!

Teffa was present to check out the street celebration, hoping to catch some cheer and a show. It wasn't a formal occasion and she didn't come dressed to show off, only in plain street clothes. She would meander about to look for a vantage point until one was found between people's shoulders.

It was finally over. She didn't give herself any pats on the shoulder but she felt some relief. The break would be nice but she didn't get paid leave. So, it's likely a breather before she would have to scrounge around for work or another way to keep out of trouble, at least.

Jax would of course never miss a party and always turned out in his best for a celebration. Wearing a fine blue suit with a white silk undershirt and a blue tie display republic colors in honor of their victory. He mingled around the celebration drink in hand and smile on his face. now this part, this part is pretty great. I kind of miss this part of being in the military. he thought to himself as he moved about laughing and having a good time.

Beside a pillar on the broad set of steps fronting a building on Veras's largest public square, Tethys stands with her hands tucked into the sleeves of her robe, watching the crowd of celebrants and smiling a small but satisfied smile. Now and then she spots someone familiar in the throng, and her expression brightens further.

The lieutenant slid behind Niall like a snake. "I hope you realize that the cape is a bit dorky," she murmured to him with a big grin on her face. She backed away a bit, hands in her jacket. "Don't let me ruin your photos, though. I'm not exactly a shining figure."

Sabine chose a strange attire.... her blue-white mandalorian armor, sans helmet.

She strode in the crowd, buying drinks, a smile on her face as she did so. She eyed her fellow fighters, and waved at them, but didn't stop.

Niall turned, giving his lieutenant a genuine smile. "Dorky? I'll have you know that capes are very in on Alderaan right now."

He raised one eyebrow, looking at her. "And what are you doing, skulking around here? Come on. Join the party with me. You've earned it." He jerked his head towards the festivities."

Zane had promised the young woman that he would play an accompaniment and so he was, joining in with Lysei on his piano as they entertained the crowd. It probably wasn't quite what either of them imagined when they had picked this course, but it would do. As long as people were enjoying themselves, that was all that really mattered.

He did spot Niall in the crowd, along with Vera and a few others, and any who looked his way received a polite nod in greeting.

Hamelin is there for the festivities. It is certainly nice to see hope return to the people who were so desperate and devoid of it. He watches the proceedings in his Jedi robes and offering polite salutations to those he knows or anyone that comes to speak with him.

Tra stood stoically in the crowd. He was proud that the Strike Force and Resistance had worked together so well, and earned such an effective victory over the invaders, but that didn't make him any more prone to partying in fantastical fashion. He was too quiet a soul for that. Didn't mean he wasn't going to enjoy the celebration a little though.

Rav saw her and walked over, spring an opportunity to relax a bit. "Hey Sabine, nice suit! Wanna drink a beer with me?" He looked over the custom armour with an expert's appreciative eye.

"A planet of dorks, then," she concluded with a mock tone of resignation.

Vera looked around with a slight smile on her face. "I'm not sure how these guys feel about Mandalorians, even if we are on the same side."

Niall laughed softly. "Guilty as charged. I don't know if you've had the opportunity to meet Lyseil Panteer, but I rather think that she's at least as dorky as I am."

The smile faded, just a little. Niall stepped closer, his voice going lower. "You helped to liberate their planet. You're a hero, Vera. And everyone will know it, even if I have to build that damn statue myself."

Aran snapped back upright, put his hands in his sleeves, and appeared outwardly more like his usual self. His smile, however, was exuberant. "Perhaps your training has been more eventful than mine, but this is the first time I have been tasked with anything as weighty as liberating a planet, and the first time that any duty I have been assigned has gone so spectacularly well." He tilted his head to the right. "So, how does it feel?"

Tethys turns her head and directs her smile at Jax--it's as subtle as ever but definitely reaches her eyes. "You've pulled out all the stops, I see," she says, looking his fancy suit up and down. "The celebration is everywhere tonight. Just different textures of party, depending on where you stand."

Durasay was in attendance, a pleasant smile on his features. He was dressed sharply in his military dress uniform. Yellow-amber eyes scanning the celebrations, a drink in hand.
