[Day 11 - Late Afternoon] No One Left Behind

Timeslots: Late Afternoon

Description: The civilians on Vantage Core Station need to be shielded and protected from the Mandalorians while the assault is ongoing! Time to sacrifice for the cause and put yourself as a shield for the people! For the Republic!

Rules: Joining the thread make a Resilience check at Average with a setback due to the combat conditions, failure here means the player suffers three wounds and three strain, advantage can be used to reduce strain and successes to reduce wounds, meaning you need three successes to not take any damage. Threat will increase strain taken, and failures increase wounds, neither can be soaked by armor.

Once that roll is made the player can make any one skill roll besides Piloting Space or Gunnery at Hard, if the roll is successful then gain 1 Shield Point, Triumph add 2 Shield Points and Despair reduces the total by 2 points. Two advantage can be used to grant the next roll a boost die and two threat will grant a setback.

Push it to the Limit: The player can make another Resilience check the difficulty increased by one, same rules apply as above and stacks for each time they Push it to the Limit. They can then make another skill check, different from their previous rolls, i.e. no skill check used twice, but now the roll is Upgraded by one, this stacks for each time they Push it to the Limit.

Death: If a player’s wounds exceed their Wound Threshold, they are killed. If their Strain exceeds their strain threshold they are knocked out but will survive.

Players need to amass 20 Shield Points to save at least half the populace. They will need 35 Shield Points to save them all.

Rewards/Outcome: Gain 5 Victory Points for saving half the people, gain 10 for saving them all.

Trust Modified: If 20 shield points are gained, gain 1.0 Trust.
Power Modified: 0
Duty Gained: 15

Despite the still healing wound in his chest, Cole’s deathwish seemed to still be in full effect as the mission briefing for support personnel came through. At least there weren’t snipers this time...

He had Emmed at his side as he moved to administer to the wounded, taking a hit meant for a collapsed Lannik. Cole pushed deeper into the station, a barrage of reflected blaster shots peppering his left side. He reached one of the station medbays, the power currently out thanks to a virus that had targeted the diagnostic systems. He was able to firewall the virus and reboot it, bringing things back online.

Tra ran into the thick of things on Vantage Core Station, mustering all of his understanding of warfare and command. He was not built for this type of front fighting, but neither were the civilians here. That made it his duty to do his best to get them out of harm's way. Blasts and energy shots continually hit all around him, but he refused to stand down in the face of those that would harm innocents. Calling on his outside voice, the now scarred commander in his slightly damaged uniform runs up to a group of civilians that were huddling and likely just waiting to die.

"Do not let fear take you! We will survive this. You will thrive after this. These Mandalorians are in their last days. You've made it this far, so don't give them the satisfaction of giving up now! Show them that you are made of sterner stuff than they think!" With the group now inspired and following, the old retired admiral used his understanding of the Mandalorian's tactics to lead the people he had found safely away from the assault, shouting orders and directions while covering from the rear to take the brunt of concussive blasts. Eventually he got them safely to the rescue ship he had arrived on.

Odd wasn't good at this humanitarian thing; not that he couldn't withstand fire or deck rocking or was too emotionally fragile to step into a mayhem of all the fluids the distribution of which people usually preferred controlling but didn't when fear and bullets came. He just usually didn't see the purpose. Still, the panicked crowd was getting unpredictable and the concurrent military operation could be compromised, so he decided to stomp in and enforce a more orderly evacuation.

Initially he just kept hurling people behind covers and into the transporter, but when a cocky straggler smartass who wanted to discuss the details of rescue operation with him he just wanted to silence the nagger with a well-measured stunning punch except... the guy got shot at the same moment and rolled back, shouting profanities. Things were becoming thicker and thicker, and the best Odd could do was to shield the retreat with his armoured body. He started to sing a lewd Mandalorian song to draw attention to himself. Most of the shots were just sliding off kiirium, but the stretch of his arms was only so wide...

He had to choose, a weeping Human canteen worker or a wounded Sullustan mechanic. He didn't hesitate, and saw the waitress being punctured by a salvo as the mechanic was pulled away. Many others would choose a damsel in distress; she had been even pretty. But the mechanic stayed conscious despite the wound and even then was tinkering with the locks to seal off some of the pockets of fire. Oddyn chose a worthier, more resolute being to survive.

Not that the woman's lifeless face, with the face striped with tearlines, might not haunt him...

Jax arrived on the station with the rescue team to aid the civilians on the station. He leapt into action intercepting mandalorian patrols and laying down covering fire using his speed and agility to move about the high vantage points on the station. He didn't take out any Mandos but his goal was to help people escape not fight.

Eventually Jax found a ground transport and used it to evac people deftly piloting around the narrow corners of the station he managed to mostly dodge mando patrols but more than a few saw him and decided to leave him with a few parting gifts. He ended up helping a good number of people but he was left with more than a few marks for his efforts.

Chase landed on the station, flying in some of the Republics finest but when an opportunity presented itself to aid the civilians on the station her efforts were for naught. As nothing that she could have done allowed her any ability to save more lives. In this battle, time was against them and any efforts made just weren't good enough.

Garth had no qualms about running through the thickest smoke and fog to help evacuate the civilians. First he went on foot and caught a few pieces of shrapnel for his trouble, but he managed to perform admirably.

The second time he found a speeder to help make the trip, but he still suffered a few wounds for his trouble, but the Force helped him avoid the worst of it all as he toiled away to help where he could.

It was unlike for any Chiss to lose their composure but a space station being under attack and the huge swaths of panicking civilians really tested that cultural stereotype in Teffa. Being vented out into space was a serious threat and no one wanted to find themselves floating home! This was the time to earn her worth, and most importantly, her pay! She ran out to the station and attempted to use her calculated senses to lead the civilians to safety in an orderly fashion. Unfortunately, she was shoved aside by some who thought she was merely blocking the way instead of helping, which earned her a few bruises despite her best intention.

However, she wasn't going to be disheartened by that and attempted a gentler hand as she tried to guide the civilians in a different fashion to safety. She tried to speak and gather a group but any good from her words were deafened as an incidental explosion rocked the station after some fuel tanks at a nearby food stand caught on fire. Coming to with a minor concussion, she was covered in glass and debris fragments. However, that was the least of her worries as she found herself beside civilians who were less than lucky and did not survive the blast.

R4 was no one's first, second or third thought for a rescue mission. But ze had treads and something like bravery, though bravery was likely an emotion and ze would have to ponder how that was possible later.

R4 took some dings across the chassis that made an impact as ze attempted to shield others working to get civilians out. However, R4 had been through worse in ze's past and for less good reasons. At least this was something worth doing, instead of random being's ire.

R4 zipped through the area, repairing speeders to be used as getaway vehicles as fast as ze could. It seemed the optimal use of one's skills. Though some of them would have problems later due to the jury rigged fixes, they worked now and that's what mattered.

However, there was still more work to be done. And ze was here. Repairs weren't so bad, right? Ze had a crew now. Z would help. Z might take a share of ze's next credit stash, but that was reasonable. Parts and labor cost credits.

Seeing a locked computer that was holding doors shut as civilians tried to escape, R4 rolled over and plugged in rapidly. However, ze hadn't checked to make sure all electrical systems were optimal prior to doing so. The resulting shock was painful to say the least.

Hamelin jumps into the fray to protect the innocent civilians as best as he can. He weathers through getting shot up as he does what he can even at the expense of throwing himself into the line of fire. He steels his will and does his best. His efforts are rewarded as he manages to push some fallen debris up to use as cover against the incoming blasts.

Delmi landed with the relief squad and fought with all her skill to break through the enemy lines to reach a pocket of hostages. The people looked amazed as the woman mowed down a line of Mandolorians all by herself in a wave of successive blaster bolts.

"Come on, we're getting you out of here." She told the group of beleaguered captives as the last of their captors fell. "We're gonna sneak you out. Follow my lead."

Delmi led the group through the halls of the shuttle, watching closely around each corner. They were able to find the boarding ship Delmi came on and Delmi stayed aboard the Mandolorian ship covering their retreat. Just as the last few hostages were boarding the ship a contingent of Mandalorian troopers came around the bend.

"GO!" Delmi screamed at the pilot as a hail of fire was unleashed from the new enemy. The ship darted away as Delmi's pistols began returning fire with deadly precision.

"Good shooting Ditzy D." Her father's said to her as she nailed a target in the eyes.

"Thanks daddy." Replied the nine year old Delmi. "One day I'll grow up and be strong like you. That way I can get whatever I want. Like candy and nice dresses and stuff."

"Delmi... give me the blaster..." Her father replied with a stern look.

Delmi looked up with concern as her dad leaned down to look her in the eyes.

"We don't use our might to get stuff for ourselves or prove that we're right. We use our might for right... you got that baby girl? If you think getting strong is meant for just yourself... I'm not gonna train you anymore. Got it?"

The little girl nodded softly as her dad placed the blaster back in her hand.

"Do it again Ditzy D." He said with a kind and reassuring smile.

Delmi spit out a mouthful of blood and spit as she looked back over the hallway littered with dead Mandolorian soldiers. She turned back to look at the transport safely flying towards the Valiant Star and chuckled to herself, "Might for right..."

Aran alternated between serenity, wit, and compassion as he moved through the chaos of the station battle, as much in response to what the sapients he was trying to rescue needed as any other aspect of the situation. While hot-wiring a series of blast doors to give a group of families a shortcut, he calmed the adults by being calm himself -- and then made faces at the younglings while the adults weren’t looking. When an exploding panel knocked him to the floor in a shower of sparks, made a joke of clutching at his sun-shades while they fussed over him. “I’m blind!”

As things got increasingly desperate, he found himself seeking out free traders, smugglers, and other criminal or criminal-adjacent types, trying to find a ship to ferry stranded refugees from a cut-off section of the station to safety. When promises of future rewards and appeals to nobility fell on deaf auditory organs, he realized the key was in figuring out what they needed. He found and brought together a Gran captain, a Toydarian ship-thief, and a mildly corrupt Bankoran portmaster, the latter two helping the first get her ship out of lockdown, and getting passage in return.

Internally, he found all three of serenity, wit, and compassion close to hand. He had become acclimated to the senseless noise that was war without becoming numb to it, and found it easy both to seek the humor in its absurdity or to push away all else in service to those harmed by it. He bore the burns, cuts, and bruises without comment, and smiled as he allowed himself to be pulled off the line and into triage.

Civilians were being assaulted, Vantage Core Station was in need of protection. Rekara rushed to help with her medical kit on one hand and hope in the other. The padawan ran through the combat area without looking to any way, she let her force senses take control and guide her through the blaster shots and fighting. She jumped, dove and ducked, slid to one side and stopped at another, with the only target in mind of finding those of need. She reached a hidden group of wounded civilians and attended their wounds as the battle occurred around her, her hands moving swiftly and precisely without any doubt in her mind. She looked about, there had to be a way to get them to safety, there was a blaster shot and she fell back in pain, grazed by the weapon because she wasn't paying attention. And then there it was, the way out, a lateral airduct, strong enough to hold the weight of a male adult wookie, able to hold them as they were rushed out.

Having a cape and a large shield in Republic colors sometimes made one a target. On the other hand, it also helped to make one a good point to rally around.

And so that is what Niall did. The sight of Captain Alderaan leading the way into the fray, doing his best to shield civilians from attack, helped to boost spirits. He led a group of them to safety, his high spirits keeping them strong along the way.

Lyseil was there, ready to help where she could. Even as her armor protected her from the worst, she sustained a few injuries herself, but not without being able to spot weak points in the enemy's plans, and evading their attention where she could.

"For the Republic! For Bankor!" she recalled she shouted at some point to bolster morale; her own as much as the others who heard it.

Striding in to the conflict, V1 shrugged off the incoming fire. Its heavy blaster rifle firing at maximum capacity as it protected the innocent.

"Please remain calm and proceed to the nearest designated safe area. Please remain calm and . . . HALT Miscreant that weapon is illegal by Republic Law, you are under arrest! Surrender or . . . . miscreant eliminated."

It continued on, firing as it strode forward until it reached a partially blocked door with civilians trapped behind it.


"Please step back and maintain a safe distance while this unit clears the blockage."


One heave of the battledroids enhanced servos and the door slammed open.

"Please proceed in an orderly manner. Do not run!"

The civilians poured past the droid, one child stopping briefly to hug Veeone's leg.

Scared citizens, gunfire, chaos everywhere. This is why he had to pack some many changes of clothes... How was a gentleman supposed to have a pleasant evening with a Lady if his shirts had bloodstains and holes in them? He really should send the Republic his dry cleaning bill.

War like this really wasn't Zanebry's element. In fact it was about as far from his element as he could imagine on a day to day basis. Still these people had a need and he'd do what he could. Keeping a eye open to the surroundings, he searched out hidden pockets of refugees, and used misdirection to distract the Mandolorians while they escaped. His tactics met with some amount of success, though his health suffered for his efforts.

The cybernetic canine's orders were clear. Protect Civilians. Stop Mandalorians. He saw a nameless soldier leveling his rifle at some huddled people, and instinctively lept in the way. The loud sound of fire hitting steel rung out, and a sharp synthetic warning yelp was emitted.

The unit turned on the assailant, teeth showing. "Defense mode engaged."

The canine unit leapt upon the assailant, an orchestra of wet, synthetic, metallic and overall visceral sounds emitting as it ravaged the one that had shot it. This organic would not be harming any others.
