Niall offered the young woman a smile, a slight hesitation only visible in his eyes. It seemed perhaps she'd run out of patience.

He turned back to Jax, his expression briefly skeptical. Finally, he returned the salute, fairly casually, but nevertheless real. "Captain Niall Organa. Five years. That's not bad." He gave Jax a nod. "Decided not to stay with it longer, though? Maybe I'd be saluting you instead by now." Not that Jax should be saluting him at all, technically, but nevermind that.

Veeone patrolled past. Gone was the clanking of carrying heavy loads before, now there was the imminent threat of a fully loaded battledroid. He stopped in front of Niall and saluted.

"Area is currently secure, Captain."

And then just stood there.

"Nah there were some complications and I needed a change of pace. Decided to go out into the private sector and become a business man working import and export."

Niall blinked as a heavy battle droid suddenly reported to him. Slowly, he returned the salute. "Very good. Carry on, ah... what is your designation?"

Turning back to Jax, Niall's lips pursed for a few moments before curling into a smile. "Import and export? I see." He nodded. "Well, we're glad to have you here with us, helping out. Both of you." He nodded to Azura. "Especially if you're willing to pitch in for tasks like this. It's not glamorous, but it's good."

Jax nodded "no problem, happy to help. These people have been through enough. If I can help do something to ease their suffering a bit."

Azura narrowed her eyes when she was addressed, and for a moment it looked like she was going to say something bad....

"I'm not saluting you" was what she eventually said.

Niall chuckled softly. "You don't have to. You're not enlisted in the Republic armed forces." He shrugged. "Besides, this is a 'no decor' sort of situation." He said, using the Republic term for speaking without worrying about rank. "No one needs to be saluting anyone, here."

He glanced at the V1 unit. Well, with just the one exception.

"Good. Armies are stupid anyway" Azura huffed "you just get to serve on behalf of someone who doesn't want to get their hands dirty so uses others to do it for them."

A pause.

"No offense."

One eyebrow went up, but Niall chuckled. "None taken. I come from Alderaan. The idea that armies are stupid is a popular one, there."

He nodded towards the command tent. "But you'd be surprised. Commander Malcom doesn't seem like he minds getting his hands dirty." For his part, Niall had managed to get at least moderately dirty, somehow even managing a smudge pf dirt on his face.

"I think her ire lies more in the senators and politicians that orchestrate these wars but don't lay down their lives for causes they supposedly believe in." He turned towards Azura "does that sound about right?"

"Ugh. Politicians" Azura said in reply, scowling "vile leeches the lot of 'em."

She paused, then shrugged.

"Alderaan is a kinda nice place though. Don't see why you'd leave it to come to this slice of hell."

Again, Niall chuckled. "Well, we do have Senator Saresh here with us. And Senator Mixo. But I take your meaning all the same."

His eyebrows went up, his expression brightening. "But you've been to Alderaan? I think it's very nice indeed." He shrugged. "I manage to visit time to time, when my military duties aren't taking me to places like this."

"Its a good planet, weve conducted business there a few times. It has less scumbags there than most places. Beautiful place to go."

"I quite liked the big forest" Azura added "don't remember what they called it, but it was nice. You could get lost there."

"We pride ourselves on our limited number of scumbags." Niall said, dryly humorous.

He titled his head, looking at Azura with a smile. "There are a great many forests on Alderaan. Perhaps the Isatabith rain forest? That's perhaps our best known one."

His lips quirked. "I have gotten lost in the forests around my family's estate more than once, actually. Although not since... since I was a child."

“Well that is a shame,” the senator replied having finished with contacting the Resisatnce leadership on the matter.

“Not all of us are terrible people, most of us have lofty ideals that become marred by reality and the fact that people can become short sighted and guided by the necessity of the moment over doing what is right in the long term. It’s why I felt it important to come here personally, to impress upon the people how important this is to me.”

She looked around, “It’s taken eight months of lobbying and politicking to even get Republic Army boots on the ground.”

Niall straightened noticeably. "Senator." He said. They'd met before, of course, when dealing with some of the aftermath of Ras Urdo.

He cleared his throat. "Speaking for myself, I'd say you're doing more than enough. And I don't judge by willingness to fight. Not everyone needs to die for their cause. Some people need to live for it instead." A position that he found himself in rather often.

Anything nice Azura was going to say was cut off when the politician joined in the conversation.

"Ugh" Azura turned away "whatever you say. I suppose you did more than any politician has done in their lifetimes, but I still don't like you."

After having waited for a gap in the conversation it had inadvertantly interrupted earlier, the battledroid interjected again.

"This droid is designated Veeone-Veeoh, prototype combat and battlefield medical support droid. Rank is specialist."

Niall nodded acknowledgement to the droid. "Captain Niall Organa. Very good to meet you, V1-V0." He'd abbreviate it in the future, of course.

He went on. "I'm sure your assistance here today was appreciated. Medical support, you say?"

“We all have to do our part, Captain, and if I can help in any way I will,” she said with an easy smile.

At Azura she chuckled, “If someone somewhere does not dislike me then I am not much of a politician. It comes with public work, but that does not mean I won’t fight for you.”

With the Senator now present, Veeone's logical processors told it to let the senator speak.

"Or at least give the appearance, right?" Azura rolled her eyes, glad to not be facing the senator now "really, as long as you don't be a drain on resources like most politicians, I don't care what you do."

She paused, looking at Jax.

"Uh yeah, I'm gonna stop now. Jax doesn't like it when I speak too much."

Jax chuckled "I don't mind if you talk its just usually what you say in high stress situations. No such strain here I don't mind if you speak your mind." he turned to senator Saresh "well I will say your presence here is heartening though its nice to see that you're not afraid to get your hands dirty with the rest of us."
