The Girl [Day 5, LE]

After sweating through her last pair of fatigues and then running out to Uthan Mill to make a very key purchase, Chase arrived back in camp and hopped straight from the speeder into a quickened walk that lead right to the door of someone she'd wanted to check on all day but hadn't since the last time they parted.

With a soft knock on the door, Chase waited outside with her arms crossed over her stomach and turned away from it. Looking down the hall. Swallowing her nerves.

She was there quiet and sitting on her bed.

Not hearing much she entered of her own volition. Pushing in through the door queitly, or as quiet as someone strapped with a blaster can be. Looking at her for a moment before closing the door again softly with her inside.

Without a word she walked to the bed and sat on the end. Looking out toward the wall without saying much fot now.

She looked over and then said, "You don't have to come here to see if I am okay. I'm fine."

"You're right, I don't," Chase said with no play to her tone. Just as straight as any other truth. "Come here for myself really. Never was too good of a person to really care how well people are feeling. You're alive, did that for me too."

"But I failed the mission, I let the Resistance down," she said sullenly.

"No girl, the resistance failed you," Chase said, putting a hand forward on her own knee. "Anyone tells you you have to give up your life so other people can live, even if it's they're family, they're trying to use you."

"You can fight, you can sacrifice, and there's so much more you can give that will actually help people instead of what they told you all to do. There'll always be another convoy, another depot, won't be another you."

"Isn't that what soldiers do though? When you go fight, you're basically doing the same thing," she replied.

"I give my life, not my death, to the people who need it most," Chase replied. "We risk it to save people every day, to keep people safe, but it's not the same. You wanna know how many missions I've flown? Just a little training, little prep, you can fight harder than you think you know. Could stop more than just a single little convoy or munition stockpile. I wouldn't sell a single one of you so short as to think all your potential could only amount to a single damn munitions stockpile."

"Fightings hard, harder than anyone would ever tell you but if you're looking to sacrifice, you fight and you live to fight as long as you can. Can't make the galaxy a better place, can't save your friends and family if you don't fight with everything you have. Hold on to every breath."

“Well everyone I know is dead,” she said flatly.

"I know how that is too, being alone, doesn't mean there's no one left to fight for," Chase lifted one leg up onto the bed to turn to face the girl a bit more directly.

"I'll let you in on the secret, I fight for people like you or me. I.. I fight to try to stop people like us from having to go through what we have, losing everything. Sorry I didn't manage that this time, I tried.. but sometimes that's just how things shake out. Life's never fair."

“I guess,” she said looking away. “So am I stuck here, or what?”

"Eager to go somewhere?" Chase asked deflecting.

“I want to join the fight, do something more than sit here,” she said honestly. “I need to do something.”

"Resistance isn't teaching you how, so how 'but I come down and teach you some basic combat once in a while, while you're still here?" Chase offered. "I can come by in the mornings, give you some thoughts, show you how to properly hold a blaster, some other basic training. Set you up right."

"Damn right," Chase said with a grin, "a girls gotta know how to protect herself and hers in this galaxy. Can't do that too well without a trusty sidekick," Chase patted her thigh by her blaster pistol.

“I’m fifteen,” she countered, “but I get it, I guess.”

“Thanks.”

Chase just looked at the girl for a second, it didn't change what she thought but.. maybe a bit more of a glimmer of the past than she was ready for. Snapping back into it, "Don't worry kid, I'll show you what you gotta know."

Standing Chase stretched and looked about the room, "Alright, tomorrow after sunrise, I'll come here first and we'll go off together. Alright?"

She nodded slowly in agreement.

Chase nodded, looked at the girl one last time before leaving, and then made her way to the door.
