[Day 8, MA] Livin' on the Edge

It was a hell of a view.

500 metres above the forest floor have an interesting new perspective on things. Rav slowly paced around on top of the Republic base muttering a little with a beer in hand. Every so often he took a small swig. Mostly he just stared out at the trees and the bird analogues, residing the urge to chase the latter.

"SIS. Of course. Clever Man? What the fuck?"

"You really shouldn't say that name so easily." Zane mused, as he made his way towards Rav. He had caught a glimpse of him from down below, and had decided to see what was bothering the shistavanen so.

"The wrong people might be listening. Even here."

He gave Z a toothy smile. "Wanna fill me in then, cause it sure don't mean much to me. Will, besides betrayal, death, and a two year coma. You know? Not much."

Reaching into a deep pocket he pulled out another beer and held it towards Zanebry. "It ain't a cocktail but I figure you can slum it."

"Sounds like there is a story there." Zane replies he accepted the beer, reaching into his pocket for his lighter, so he could pop the top.

Taking a sip, he grimaced. "That's about as bad as I remember." Letting his eyes drift towards the trees, he let the silence linger before talking. "I dont know much myself, never seen his face, though I've met one of his proxies. Have a few ideas about what they are doing though, and why."

The wolf nodded. "Yeah, there's a whole long story about how I should be dead, most of my friends are, some sorry people aren't, and this Clever dude might be behind it all."

He shrugged and took another swig. "That's the short version obviously. So who is he/she/it? What can you tell me?"

"Mmm. So a bit of revenge is on on your mind then?" Zane asked looking the wolfman over for a moment.

"Usually I'd go on about how getting involved in this could kill you, but you dont need that talk." His lips curled into a wry smile. "You aren't a kid like most of the rest of the beings I run into."

"They are part of a larger organization as far as I can tell, a third party as it were. They work behind the scenes, weakening the Republic, and the Empire. There goal isn't the destruction of either side, but something else altogether."

He shook his head and took a sip of his beer. "I imagine they've been working both sides of this conflict too. And are responsible for several of our information leaks, if I'm right at least."

Rav nodded along. It all made a wearying kind of sense. He chugged a little more of the beer.

"Remember that Hutt who died early on? I think he might have found out something connected to all that. Didn't think about it at the time. Who knows though, with a Hutt it coulda just been something dodgy, right?"

The pieces Z have him fit in around the ones he had heard from Sara that morning.

"Revenge is on my mind, sure, but there's a bigger picture here."

"I figure it was just something dodgy." z offered his a shake of his head. "I mean he might of stumbled onto something, but a Hutt is just as likely as not to use that to make a profit. Honestly, they would go for money before shooting in most cases, at least as far as I know. He was probably just trying to steal stuff from that museum."

"Aye, there is a bigger picture, almost always is." Zane agreed with a nod. "You have any inkling about what it might be?"

"Yeah, you're probably right. As for what it's all about? Well clearly someone wants the Republic and the Sith at each others throats. Got to be another predator out there, biding its time. Something that wants everyone distracted."

He scratched behind his ears. "Whatever that is though? I think that's like way above my pay grade."

"The Clever Man does work for an organization, as far as I can tell." Zane offered, "I'm fairly certain they are only putting the republic in the Empire at each others throats in pursuit of another goal though." He smirked. "which is likely way about your pay grade.'

He took a swig from his bottle. "You don't happen to have one of your toolkits on you do you? It's a bit of a awkward place for it, but figured I'd ask if you wanted to work while we talked."

Rav made a show of looking annoyed. "What do you take me for? What kinda mechanic doesn't take his tools with him, everywhere?"

Shaking his head he walked over to his backpack, which contained a couple more beers and most of his stuff. He pulled out the weapon repair kit.

"Never leave home without one. You can help again while you tell me what you think their goal is."

He chuckled at that. "I suppose that's a little like me always carrying around whiskey." As well, as a gun, and a knife, and a few other things.

Producing one of his two blasters, he passed it Rav's way as he took a sip of his beer. "Well, I don't think the destruction of the empire or Republic is their goal. The means to a end maybe..." His lips curled into a wry smile, as his voice became low. "I want you keeping this next part to yourself. People find out about this and I'm right... People start dying."

"Hey, engineer's honour. Don't look at me like that, it's a thing. Sheesh." A toothy grin appeared before he started to get to work on the weapon. It was another fairly simple adjustment so he didn't feel bad about doing it without his shiny new gear.

"Yeah, pass me a number 4 will ya? No. No. That one. There you go. Okay. You were saying?"

He was tempted to write For a bigger Pew call Rav on... on Z's pistol using his etching pen, but thought better of it.

"Ah, no problem." Zane offered as he tried to help the mechanic out. He st least mostly knew the different sizes of spanners...

"Well..." He trailed off his voice low so it wouldn't carry. "From what I tell they want to kill all the force users, Sith and Jedi... I believe they blame them for all the wars lately... The Sith for starting them, and the Jedi so often standing aside."

"They think the galaxy will be a better place without the lot of them.

Giving an encouraging nod Rav asked Z exactly how to recalibrate the energy coils. It was pretty easy, for a trained mechanic.

The story rolled on and he gave Z a puzzled look. "What? All of 'em? That's crazy talk. I mean, Sheesh."

"That it is..." He agreed with a shake of his head.

"It's possible though, at least I figure it is... All you need is a way to find them, kind of like how they can find each other. Then, well...They're outnumbered. Point enough guns at them, and it shouldn't be a problem."
