[Teffa]

After a likely lengthy debriefing about this afternoon's incident, Teffa thought she was probably due for some rest and relaxation. That poor Kel Dor made it but it was still quite a sight to drag the dying old man to safety. Was the shooter aiming for him or her employer? Likely the latter but the damage that was done did make her second guess the intent. She needed something less intense to clear her mind, even if briefly. The faint lights coming from the local casino did prove promising and drew the Chiss in like a moth to a flame. She pushed open the grand doors into the Blue Oasis Casino to only be greeted by a barren establishment, it had been ransacked and looted, like the work of the Mandalorians.

She followed the lengthy bar, her feet skirted past some glass fragments of some smashed bottles, until it brought her to a vacant playing table. Sighing deeply in disappointment, she pulled out a sabacc deck from her pocket and began shuffling it idly. This would have been a hell of a place to hang out.

[Dr. Cole Ormont]

Cole sauntered into the casino after saying goodbye to the Gand. He wasn't usually into sightseeing, but for the first time in a long time, he had time to spare. He was wearing his desert fatigues, Republic blue, distinctive white bibbed breast, it had a high collar and a gaiter. Over that was a thermal cloak with the hood drawn up against the chill of the desert night.

As he came in, the surgeon tossed back the hood, revealing his distinctive messy blonde curls, running a hand through them and looking around. His eyes fell on the lone Chiss, "ah, sorry, I didn't think anyone would be here."

[Teffa]

Teffa stopped mid-shuffle and raised her brows when the doctor entered in. "No worries at all, I thought this place wasn't supposed to be empy, actually. I guess I missed the memo that this place was cleared out. It's not marked for demolition or anything, is it? And aren't you that doctor from medical?"

[Dr. Cole Ormont]

"Doctor Ormont," he offered, looking at the smashed glass and empty shelves. All the liquor bottles had been emptied and smashed, as had the glassware. He strode behind the bar, assessing the damage, the Mandalorians had really gone to town. "I guess this was Mandalorian territory until we pushed them back."

[Teffa]

"Nice to meet you, Doctor Ormont, outside of your work too! Wasn't exactly the best time to be sauntering into your operating room...Anyway, I'm Teffa, Captain Teffa of the Trunk," She gave him two enthusiastic nods of her head at her introduction before putting the deck to the side. "I think so, this part of the town didn't exactly look too friendly until today. It turns out that they kind of took a lot of things with them when they left. Can't say I'm surprised...they seemed like sore losers!"

[Dr. Cole Ormont]

"A pleasure, Captain," he hunkered down, disappearing behind the bar as he continued to sift through the debris. "Sore losers would be an apt description," came his disembodied voice, accompanied by the sounds of shifting glass clinking and items being shuffled around. "Sorry about the other day in the hospital, I kinda go into a zone when I'm working."

[Teffa]

"Oh, pft," Teffa scoffed with a dismissive wave of her hand. "That's fine. You were busy and I think it'd be more weird if you actually were talking to me when people were bleeding everywhere. To be honest, I don't know what I'd even say then..."

There was a moment where seemed to have drawn a parallel to Medical and what happened today.

She cleared her throat. "...so anyways, what brings you to the casino today? Hoping to be the first one to raid the bar? I guess you might be lucky if you were the 100th person by now."

[Dr. Cole Ormont]

"Sometimes," there was a triumphant note to Cole's voice, "you just have to know where to look." An unopened bottle of whiskey appeared on the counter, quickly followed by dishevelled blonde curls as the doctor got to his feet. "There's always one employee in a place this large who's stealing from the boss. Learnt that on Eolia IV."

[Teffa]

Teffa let out a low whistle, clearly impressed. "...Nice, that's a great find, doctor. I guess scavenging skills pay big while on duty? Quite a craft employee too. I would never try to pocket a whole bottle, just skim a few shots off the top is good enough for me. Of course, that makes me all the more chatty and really obvious."

[Dr. Cole Ormont]

"I've been visiting planets on the Outer Rim in need of medical aid. They're all pretty much like this," he waved at the general destruction, heavy boots crunching on broken glass as he approached the table. "You pick up a thing or two, whether you want to or not."

[Teffa]

Teffa grimaced, "That sounds pretty rough but I imagine that you've been at this for a while. They probably don't send you over because some bratty noble had a bad fender bender or needed a nose job from a brawl."

[Dr. Cole Ormont]

Cole gave an amused snort, "there's a lot of worlds out there just important enough for the Great War to mess up all their shit, but not important enough to do anything about when they pulled their forces back. That goes for both sides," he added, cracking the seal on the whiskey bottle.

[Teffa]

"Ah, huh," Teffa said noncommittally in acknowledgement in what he said. She never imagined he was the war-edged type and she certainly didn't have anything else to add to that. "That only makes it someone else's headache but I don't think that's what's going to happen to this place. Seems the Republic are pretty committed. I don't know if an assassination attempt is really going to discourage that..."

She gestured to the bottle. "Hey...are you going to have that all by yourself?"

[Dr. Cole Ormont]

Taking a swig from the bottle, he set the whiskey down in front of her, "only if you have a problem sharing." He dropped heavily into a chair, pulling a second chair close enough for him to put his feet up on. Gesturing to his uniform, "I'm a soldier, the Republic's headaches are my headaches."

[Teffa]

Teffa shuffled a foot on the ground, reminding herself of all of the broken glass on the ground, it was unlikely she was going to get her own cup without some hardened scavenging skills. "Suuure, a drink's a drink, right? This one looks particularly top-shelf, too. Thanks!"

She took a swig and set it back down closer to Cole's side. "...Even when you're light years apart and on to the next system? It's got to be someone else's problem by then!"

[Dr. Cole Ormont]

“Worried I might have cooties?” his tone didn’t give much away, neither did his guarded expression. He took another swig from the bottle and set it down for her again, “I try not to think about it too much. Orders are orders,” he shrugged one shoulder, “go here, do that. There’s a reason Command get paid a lot more than me.”

[Teffa]

Teffa narrowed her eyes on at the doctor for a moment. Wherever the doctor was coming from, it wasn't all sunshine and parties. Remind me to never sign up, even if they offer me a free arm.

"Naaah," she said casually as she reached for the bottle once more to take another swing from it. "I figured if I got cooties, you'd probably know the prescription of how to deal with it anyways. That's unfortunate but I doubt that Republic keeps you working at all times of the day. You're allowed to leave your clinic once in a while, unless you just happen to bail out in the middle of an operation...did you?"

[Dr. Cole Ormont]

“More like someone shoved me out the door with strict orders not to come back for at least eight hours. Actually, I was in town looking for supplies,” he didn’t reach for the bottle again just yet.

[Teffa]

"Eight hours? Sounds like orders to get some sleep to me and I hope that's something that exists in the Republic. Was there something you were looking in particular? I'd almost say there wouldn't be medical supplies here but people in casinos tend to develop the most interesting habits sometimes..."

[Dr. Cole Ormont]

"Very astute, Specialist Teffa, and I won't pretend that's never happened." He took a drink, "I'm looking for something called Med-Aid Patches. They're fairly uncommon, but on Bankor they're rare as hen's teeth, to little surprise. They're useful for real emergency treatments, they're too expensive for anything more than that."

[Teffa]

"I'm a specialist, now?" She said with some bemusement at the bestowed military title. What did a specialist specialize in, anyway? Or was he being cute?

She picked up her deck of cards and pocketed it. "No stone unturned, huh? I guess you may as well since the premises are clear you have time to kill. Maybe we'll run into some crime doctor's secret stash? Or some pit boss has a special addiction to mid-aid patches, picked it up while on duty a few years back..."

[Dr. Cole Ormont]

Cole cleared his throat and ran a hand through his dishevelled curls, "bad habit," he explained, "I've taken to calling everyone who's not military Specialist. Easier than keeping track of who's this and that." He shrugged with one shoulder and changed the subject, "so do you play those cards, or are they just for show?"

[Teffa]

"That makes sense, I suppose that would make for a better title than, 'hey you' or 'paid volunteer'. Not too bad but you can just call me Teffa is it gets too confusing to keep track. I just found out recently that I'm supposed to be a Captain, with my own ship and all," she smirked proudly on that note.

"For show?" She grinned as she took a look around the vacant casino. "I guess it must have been for myself or thematic to this place. No, I've been shuffling cards and playing cards long before I've stepped foot here. Not all of my life, but I think I play pretty decently for getting into the game late, so to speak."

[Dr. Cole Ormont]

“And they don’t even make you pass a test,” it was less a question than a flat observation, “just here’s my ship, I’m the captain now.” Cole ran his hand through his hair and shifted a little in his seat, his right boot was crossed over the left where he’d put them up on another chair.

“It’s good to have a hobby. Double if you’re good at it.”

[Teffa]

"It didn't just land on my lap, that's for sure. I mean the proper fields were filled out on the form to make it mine, as well as becoming my own boss and employee. The Captain part really came later, I didn't know that's something they call anyone with a ship. If I knew that sooner, I would have hassled the bars I've hit for free drinks." She chuckled briefly and shrugged. "I'm sure myself any of the three dozen captains that passed by there too."

"I guess kind of wished there was more use of it around here. I should be ready to have my blaster out than a deck of cards, of obvious reasons of being a warzone."
