Who's Afraid of the Big Bad... Mechanic? (D5, MM)

Delmi walked into the hangar and headed over to the section that she had been informed where the increasingly famous canine mechanic was said to be posted at this hour. She began looking around to see if she could spot him amongst all the hustle and bustle.

There was an "oof" sound as a junior engineer staggered out into the space between Spitfires. He was rubbing his stomach and clutching a Hydrospanner of some sort.

"How many times Jenkins? Make yourself useful and do a lap or somethin'. Schmeesh."

The sound of someone loudly re-repairing something echoed across the hanger. Jenkins returned the hydrospanner to a communal toolbox and slunk off.

Delmi approached the noise slowly and peeked her head around to see if she could see who was doing the work.

"Ahem... is there a Rav, here? Famous mechanic one..."

Half a set of oil-stained coveralls with a tail and clawed feet was sticking out from under a Spitfire. The sounds of welding began, with accompanying sparks. After a moment they stopped and a wolfman rolled out.

"Famous? Famous for what exactly?"

"All sorts of stuff... you're like a hero who saved a city or something." She said.

"And I hear you're a damn good mechanic too."

Looking thoroughly confused by all the praise Rav pulled up his welding goggles and scratched behind one ear.

"Who's saying this stuff?" His eyes flicked up and down the human. "And who are you exactly? Oh, are you from one of those allied ships? I guess can fit in an inspection later tonight."

"I'm uhh.. A private contractor I guess people would say... More of a temporary volunteer and loose acquaintance of the commander. Name's Delmi Koor. I was just commissioned some gear for my pistol, a Model 1 “Nova Viper” Blaster... temperamental things... And don't want some dummy messing with it. So... when I asked who was the best techie around here, I heard your name..."

Rav squinted at Delmi. "Oh yeah? Huh. Well you know Nova's are notoriously awkward to work with, right? They're over-tuned and a general pain in the ass. Nice if you can afford 'em though."

He set down the welding gear and folded his hairy arms across his chest.

"How come you know the Commander?"

She nodded, "That's why I'm looking for the best guy around to see if he can fix it. Back on Nar Shaddaa I got a guy... but here... I'm a bit out of my element."

She then tilted her head, "He paid for my arm to be replaced after I lost it on the initial attack on Bankor. I think he knows my dad or something from back in the day."

"Huh, you don't say?"

The wolf scratched behind his other ear and then shrugged. "Well, I like a challenge, let's get that piece of over-tuned crap on a work bench and see what we can do."

He gave a raspy chuckle and led Delmi over to the hanger workshop.

“Here’s the bit of crap. Sanitized it for your convenience.” She said with a wry smile. “I added this new electronic sighting system but I feel it could be a bit more accurate still... probably has some lingering redundancy getting in the way.”

"Heh, that's the spirit. Yeah, I got one of these for my roomsweeper. Came in handy last night, of course there was the issue with song the place on fire but..." He waved it away.

"Yeah, that looks doable, but it's always tricky working on these things. No guarantees, but for 100 creds worth of parts I can give it a solid go for ya."

She pulled a satchel off her shoulder, "Just so happens I got what I think you should need... you need any more to wet your nose?"

(OOC: Paid for the parts already. Can assist on the roll, adding a bonus no doubt.)

Rav shrugged. "Hey I can always use parts for my crazy projects. Let's see how it all turns out. Now, I need you to put your finger right...there. Don't look at me like that. I'm serious, you gotta hold that tiny wire in place. Yeah, like that."

Watching Rav work was an impressive sight. It was as if he had been doing it his whole life, or was powered by the force, or something.

Day 5. MM. Modding the Primary Pew. Daunting difficulty. Gearhead. Destiny flip. Weapon kit (Blasters). Hanger boost. Delmi assist.: 4eP+4eB+4eD 7 successes, 3 advantage

(OOC: Gearhead reduces the cost by 50% and advantages have typically been used for cost reductions too. Let's say the modifications cost you nothing but you can give me 50 credits in materials for my time?)

Delmi pitched in a finger here and there and smiled as the canine finished his job. "Wow. Fine work my canine friend. It looks like you got it down to the finest tuning. Didn't think I'd be so lucky as to come across someone so skilled out here in the middle of nowhere."

(OOC: Excellent. 50 creds for you then, sir)

A raspy chuckle. "Well apparently doing the impossible is my thing now huh? Yeah, glad it worked. Professional pride an' all that."

He looked over his handiwork. "Nice piece of kit. You don't see many of 'em in my line of work. Maybe on an officer who started out rich. Where'd you get it? These things usually have a story."

He packed up his blaster kit as he spoke.

"It was my dad's. Was an officer for the Republic back in the day." She nodded. "I had to take it back from the guy who killed him. Pretty much the one thing I have left from him. So... thanks for takin' good care of it." She said with a grateful nod.

"Ouch. Gotcha, so that piece has history huh?" He nodded, seemingly satisfied. "Does it have a name?"

"Nah, it's the Nova. Other's the Equalizer. Never been the most creative or superstitious gal." She replied.

"You name your tools?"

The wolfman thought any that and shook his head. "Only the ones with stupidly long names. It's funny, I've gotten used to being around the kind of folks who give names to their weapons... Or vehicles. Starts to become normal you know."

“Yeah... I mean I see it all the time.” She nodded.

“Dad named his sidearm after his wife. Turned out she was a imperial spy who got him kicked out of the military. Learned then objects can have an advantage over a named person. Much more reliable than a person as long as you take care of it.”

Rav's mouth opened and closed before he frowned.

"Well. Shit. That's a hell of a story." He shook his head. "Makes sense you'd take that from it. Kinda why I like machines myself."

His big wolf's eyes looked over the weapon. "You got any more you wanna do to it let me know. I can find some time."
