What the hell? (D6 EM)

"What do you mean not allowed in without an escort?" Came the nearly explosive shout from Azura as she stood at the hangers edge. She had intended to come in and do a little more work on her blaster, only to be confronted with a republican soldier explaining the situation.

Needless to say, by Azuras shouting and body language, she was not happy with it.

"I nearly died for the Republic! Now you're saying you don't trust me? What the hell!"

Nearby a mechanic was working away on repairing a Spitfire that someone had seemingly flown through a sandstorm. That's like flying through glass! Dumb idiots.

The sounds of someone yelling echoed over the sound of his repairs. Yelling in the hanger wasn't unusual, but it was usually him doing it... Sliding out from under the bird he lifted his goggles and strolled over.

"What's all the shouting about, huh?" He looked at the soldier in confusion.

The soldier turned to explain, but was cut off by the angry blue-haired girl.

"I'll tell you what it's about! I nearly died yesterday saving people, but now I'm not allowed in the main hanger because of some shitty leak? This is utter crap! I just want to make some more changes to my weapon so I can keep helping you stupid republic people and you're treating me like some kind of criminal!"

She balled her fists.

"Utter bull!"

The wolf rolled his eyes and pulled out a datapad. He sighed and looked down the list.

"Seriously?! Nobody tells me anything! Which ship? Is it literally a shitty leak - because if so I've got a job for Jenkins - or are you being figurative? Damn humans, make up your minds already. Could it be coolant? Engine oil? Something radioactive? Did you try tasting the fluid? Have you got any on your clothes perhaps, because a sample would make this a lot freakin' easier."

"Not a fucking ship leak! They're 'increasing security' by kicking out everyone who's been helping them! Idiots, fucking idiots!" Azura looked around "so what, one of you has to sit and babysit me then while I work on my gun then? Or do you have to take people like him" she motioned at Rav "away from his work instead?"

Rav listened and turned to look at the soldier. His words became louder and more snarky as he continued. "Why did no-one bother to tell me about this shit? Damnit, I've been right over there! It ain't hard to flash up a message. Or just stop by and say 'Oh, sorry to interrupt the essential maintenance that keeps our military running but which we know nothing about, but here's a piece of information you should know.' Sheesh."

He rubbed his temples, smearing them with grease. There seemed to be a brief internal conflict, but who was winning was hard to tell. Eventually he seemed to come to a decision.

"What's yer name kid?"

Kid?

"Azura. Azura Mora of the Midnight crew. And you are?"

What's a good dog name. Lassie? Spot? Something like that.

"Midnight, right. One of those independent ships the Chief had me working on a few weeks back. I'm Specialist Rav Devaroo."

He looked the kid over. She didn't look anything special.

"Working on your gun huh? What model you got?" He looked at the Soldier. "It's okay Pakt, I got this."

Azura glared at the other soldiers before approaching the dog, unequiping her gun:

"My little blaster. She packs a hell of a punch though, I've been tweaking her mods to increase the strength of the shot, it'll cut though most armours now. Just need to increase the output for extra damage, and it'll be ready to blast some mandos to pieces. I was working on one of the attachments for that."

The wolfman, or dog, or jackal, or whatever he was, cast an appraising eye over Azura's blaster pistol. He nodded appreciatively. "Hey, nice piece. I mean, seriously, that's a solid bit of tunin' for a standard blaster pistol. Actuator's close to the limit. You'll get another shot at dialling it up before there's a chance of the whole thing overloading."

His ears perked up as he studied it more closely. "You do all this yourself? That's nice work."

"Yeah I wasn't sure if I could do much more to the actuator" Azura nodded, smiling "it's all my work. I'm not amazing, but I like to dabble and learn on the move. I like being able to be self-reliant as much as I can, although I might be reaching the limits of my skills on this weapon. You said you're a specialist right, don't suppose that's a weapon specialist?"

An appreciative nod was offered when it turned out to be all her own work. "Hey this is good stuff, but it's at the point where I'd be pushing it too. I'm a mechanic but my specialties are construction and demolition."

He pulled out his blaster repair kit. "I'm a bit of a gearhead though, do all my own work on blasters. No guarantees but I'd be happy to take a look for ya?"

"Hey if you can fine tune it even more be my guest. If I did it I think most of the guard here might have a hissy fit" Azura rolled her eyes before offering the weapon over.

She was rewarded with a raspy chuckle. "Long as it's bein' pointed at Kryze and friends, sure." He gave the soldier a wave and led Azura off towards the workstations.

"If it doesn't work there's a different angle we can try, but you might want to wait until I've finished my special project..."

"Sure Rav, whatever puts a more painful hole in a mandos head works for me" Azura shrugged "I think there's still more that can be squeezed out of the gun, and then it'll be a real murder machine."

The two worked away at the weapon for some time but unfortunately their efforts were for naught. Orokos had decided this was the day of crapping all over Rav's rolls and nothing could stand in its way. He scratched his head in bemusement as he looked at the pistol.

"Ah crap, that ain't working. The bad news is it doesn't look like the actuator will take that particular kinda tuning attempt again. The good news is we only used 25 credits in parts, and we can try a different approach next time at least."

He looked really put out, and it wasn't even his weapon.

Azura had moved close, helping where she could but she was eagerly studying how the dog worked. He was so skilled! So when it didn't work for him, Azura frowned.

"Damn, that looks a tough job. Pinpoint precision needed to make any changes. I clearly had it easy before now, don't think I'd have a shot of taking it much further!"

She gave him a pat on the back.

"Don't sweat it, you did damn good. We know what angle to not go next time, right?"
