Harder, Better, Faster, Glower (D6 EE)

With the parts gathered, Arali set to work, tweaking and adjusting. Verdant was ambitious. Too ambitious. She'd tried to do too much, too soon, and it ended up far more complicated than was practical. This time, though? This time would be more straightforward. Taking the lessons learned before, and carrying them forward.

((Here until late evening.
Mechanics: 2eA+2eP+2eD 2 successes, 1 advantage, 1 Triumph

Hangar boost: 1eB 1 success, 1 advantage

Total of 2 advantages and 1 triumph to play with. Going with Finely Tuned Emitter, Two-Handed, and Lightweight
Edit: Actually, gonna stay here until mid night. Pass, Pass Two mods on the damping emitter to eliminate the damage penalty.))

Galen entered the hangar and soon found Arali. He didn't say anything right away and just watched her work. He'd seen it before and didn't want to interrupt her focus.

Arali noticed Galen approaching, but didn't speak up immediately. No need to make him feel like he was loud, or imposing.

She continued her work without slowing as she spoke, "Have you ever tried sand painting, Galen?"

He shook his head. "I can't say I have. I'm not even certain of what that is."

"It's painting," Arali answered simply, as she spent a moment making a delicate connection, then explained further.

"Just, instead of pigment, you carefully arrange colored sand. It is a slow, tedious process, and very delicate. Most works are made with no expectation that they last more than a few days. A few of the temples preserve the works under the floors in a clear sealant, but I think it rather defeats the purpose."

"It sounds difficult, yet rewarding." he smiled. "Like waiting for the perfect shot."

"That is a slightly disturbing comparison," Arali remarked glibly.

"It is... a reflection on the nature and purpose of art. A meditation on the transience of things. All art is fundamentally born of the moment, a reflection of the creator at that instant. But a moment passes, and people change. To hold onto that reflection too tightly stifles growth."

She ran a few wires from her datapad to the internals of her saber, and ignited the weapon. The blade extended off the bench, and seemed much crisper than an ordinary saber blade. More solid, and its color richer, but Galen only got a moment to look at it before the twi'lek doused her blade and looked over the data collected.

He shrugged. "The comparison is unorthodox, perhaps, but I think it's a matter of perspective. The transience of life can be observed readily in the wild, including in the relationship of predator and prey."

He looked over her work, but it was far beyond him. "You've made improvements?"

Arali let the defensiveness go.

"Always," she answered simply. "Though not necessarily to the saber. Verdant provided powerful options, but I grew to rely on them."

"It looks powerful and is clearly well crafted." he said with a nod. "I'm still trying to understand mine."

That was a somewhat worrying sentence. "Did you construct it yourself, or was yours... otherwise acquired?"

"I found it in the wreckage of that barge that crashed on Nar Shaddaa." he explained. "I reforged it, but I've discovered that the spirit of its former wielder is still attached to it."

That got Arali's attention.

"I see. Kyber crystals are, in their own way, alive. They choose their wielders, bond with them. Using a found crystal carries... unpredictable risks. Do you know who this spirit was, and do they try to influence you in any way?"

"Jedi Knight Yulu Kess." he answered. "He wants to teach me."

Well that wasn't the worst answer.

Arali was quiet for a while, considering.

"The nature of spirits like this is... a complicated subject, and there isn't much consensus on it. Whether they are the individual in question, or just a fragment of stored data. Regardless, whatever contacted you is... not quite what it was in life. Be careful."

He nodded. "I'm trying to understand it better before I try to speak with him again."

"You and a lot of our most esoteric scholars," Arali half joked. "But I'm well out of my depth once we start talking about ghosts.

"Well, until I can understand the more spiritual aspects of a lightsaber, I'd like to understand some of the technical aspects." he said. "I'm sure I'll want to repair or modify it further in the future."

"There, I can be more helpful; I've been teaching some of the younglings. May I take a look at your work?" she set down her tools, and reached out for Galen's saber.

He handed the saber to her. The hilt was functional and well balanced, including a fine-tuned emitter. Overall, however, it seemed a bit fragile.

Arali donned a set of goggles, and cracked open the casing for a good, long look. Eventually, she spoke up.

"For an early effort? Very impressive. And it looks like you're sticking to shipboard tools? Probably the most practical option for your situation, but it has some issues. Your saber is plenty for now, but if you ever want to facet the crystal to increase power output, some of these welds probably won't hold up. Let me show you a trick you can do with the mini arc welder..."

She proceeded to demonstrate a few useful techniques, using her own saber as the example.

Galen watched carefully, trying to remember her directions.

"I'm sure I'll never have your skill, but this helps."
