Jax nodded at the droid "Yeah I am basically a mercenary. You pay me and I'll fly just about anyone or thing anywhere."

The droid boops an affirming sound. *Do you fly by this instinct that the Garth speaks of?*

Jax pauses and thinks for a moment "Sometimes I suppose, occasionally you have to fly by nothing but your reactions things happen faster than you can think and calculate so you kind of let your body take over."

[Garth Wayne]

Jax chuckles "Garth wishes he was a pilot like me." he said giving the ensign a good natured jab on the shoulder "yes I too am a pilot but I don't fly for the republic. Well I do for now but I'm not part of the republic military."

Garth hangs his head slightly. "It's true, Jax is on a whole different level ta me. It'll take me a good twenty years fer ma skills ta deteriorate that much." He replies before looking up and grinning.

"I'm off the clock Jenkins, don't even think about it!"

A wiry Shistavanen carrying what appeared to be a brand-new lightweight suit of battle armour was pointing a finger aggressively at one of the junior techs, who slunk off expertly. He nodded to the group and their escort, even throwing a smile at Garth as he passed. "'Sup G-man?"

With a chuckle he headed over towards the work benches, locating his own customised one and placing his tools and armour down. Reaching for his comm he flicked it to the channel of someone he could trust to help figure out what needed to be done next.

"Hey Baesal, it's Rav. Mind helping me out with a personal project? I'm in the hanger, usual place."

As he waited he settled down and started laying out his tools before taking a few moments to appreciate the awesome work that he and Basesal had finished up just a few days before.

It did not take ling before mechanical steps echoed near as R5 T8 approached with Baesal by his side, discussing something.

By the time she arrived Rav had the suit up on the work bench for easy access to the leg plates and repulsor-assist system. He waved as the Togruta and her droid approached.

"Yo, Baesal. I don't recall you owning a droid before? Thanks for stopping by." He pointed at the armour. "I was hoping I could get your expert assistance with this again. I figure I can tune up the repulsor system to do more than just carry extra weight. You game?"

"Yeah, tha's somethin' us humans do a bit. Specially one's with the healthy ego that normally comes with bein' a pilot like us."

The droid listens intently. *I see. Does it serve the purpose of deflating another's ego? Is this a useful function?*

"It shouldn't but 'tis a useful way to see how someone behaves under pressure and conflict. See if Jax here swings at me fer m' comment, ah know he's thin skinned and prone t' overreaction not a fine combination fer a pilot of high tech machinery."

Standing up he pats Jax on the back. "But one o' these days we'll have to put our skills t' the test, and decide a true pecking order. Until then it's all in fun."

R40XY swivels its headpiece. *I understand. You must do quality testing on him and his ability to respond to complex environments. That is logical.*

The next piece seems to puzzle it however. *A pecking order? Like a hierarchy? Why is this necessary? Would not the individual with the highest ability be at the top of the chain?*

"It's complicated, ability is...subjective. Different missions, different skills. Then there's rank, senority."

Garth shrugs. "It's harder to...quantify in organics than droids. Can't just pull out a readout of our specs."

The droid plainly stops and attempts to process this. After a moment, it moves its visual optic towards Garth. *I have insufficient data to analyze this statement. I will need to collect more. What does seniority mean?*

[Garth Wayne]

"Experience." Garth tries to explain. "Ah've been drivin an flyin in some capacity fer....about a decade now. Ol' man over there," Garth tilts his head in Jax's direction.

"He's surely got me beat fer years, definitely in space pilotin'. But I'd be willin t' bet ah've got him beat for experience in fast ground vehicles. Lots o' whaddya call 'em....variables."

The droid attempted to calculate this. *So theoretically, one could make an algorithm in which one computed experience, types of vehicles one has experience with, some manner of standardized measure of one's skill as a pilot and use this to determine who would be the best candidate for any given mission based on those criteria.*

[Jax Dolross]

Jax nodded "I won't pretend I know much about constructing experiments but there is this quality about piloting that is inconsistent and hard to pin down. There will be times when pilots under pressure do things that they never have before and likely won't be able to again. Part of those gut reactions we talked about. Pilots have their specialties like Garth like he said is good in a chase or general speed. I am pretty good at tricky maneuvering and have the most experience of any pilot here I'm not 100% certain what Chase's specialty is maybe that she is a fearless individual but that's kind of a double edged sword."

[R4OXY]

R40XY whirs and beeps and eventually ceases ze's noises. *Inconsistencies make for difficult experiments, with little repeat ability. This may be beyond my processors to understand.*

"Well then how's about we promise to leave the mechanical stuff to you, an' you leave the mission plannin' t' us? Though we do appreciate yer willin'ness ta help figure this out R4-OXY."

The droid gives a loud beep. *Perhaps this is best. Just as in droids, each works at their best suited task. Perhaps this is simply not my best suited task.*

R40XY swivels its viewing port towards Garth. *Thank you, the Garth. I find your logic useful.*

JAx placed his hands back in his pockets after a long stretch "So R4OXY, hmmm you drop the 4 from that you get Roxy. Interesting...." he shook his head "So you just a travelling mechanic or do you have a regular ship or crew you work with?"

[Garth Wayne]

"Careful, our little droid here don't like abbreviations. Yo uh should've heard it beep when ah called it OXY." Garth warned Jax with a smile.

The droid bobs it chassis. *The Garth speaks truth. I do not prefer shortened designations. And I am currently a traveler. I would be interested in finding a regular ship to work with, but have not found one as of yet.*

Jax raises an eyebrow "hmm stop by my ship, the Midnight, sometime. We should have a chat." Azura had a little mechanics knowledge but a droid dedicated to it would be a huge help.
