(Day 0 - LN) Space...

Galen hated space travel. He knew it was realatively safe, but it felt unnatural. Most ships felt cold and sterile, artificial. The void beyond was so much worse. There was nothing out there but death. Even so, he watched from the observation deck as the universe streaked by.

"Does it bother you, Navi?" He looked at the small creature on his shoulder, who seemed fascinated by what they were watching. "I guess not."

Cole rubbed his eyes and ran a hand through his curls; it was too late to even be called late anymore, it was some ungodly hour of the morning. He hadn't slept well, but he didn't so much these days anyway. Heading up to the observation deck, he thought he might try and get a first glimpse of their destination when they dropped out of hyperspace. It seemed like he wasn't the only one with that idea, straightening his shoulders as he cast his pale eyes across the area.

His gaze landed on the small creature hitching a ride on a man's shoulder. He could have sworn he'd seen it somewhere before.

Seeing Cole, Galen turned to greet him.

"Doctor, it's nice to see you again. It's nice to see any familiar face, to be honest."

Nodding in acknowledgement of the greeting, Cole racked his brain, trying to place the man's face. He ran a hand through his hair and sighed, "I'm sorry..." he trailed off expectantly, hoping the man would supply the name that he'd forgotten.

"That's alright." he offered a hand. "Galen Sol. We only met briefly. Really, I could only remember that you were a doctor."

"Right," the man shook Galen's hand, "Ormont, Cole Ormont." He didn't give rank and title, the naval uniform provided that. "I'm going to hazard a guess it was something to do with Nar Shaddaa?" it was a safe bet, he'd been in rather limited company since the peace talks had ended. "What brings you Bankor way?"

He nodded. "First on Z's ship and again at the pool party."

Galen glanced back outside. "I'm not on a crew anymore, but I'm still a hired gun."

Cole nodded, his curiosity piqued. He'd been made a number of job offers before leaving Nar Shaddaa, and he'd ultimately fallen back on the relative safety of the navy rather than striking out on his own. "How's that working out for you?"

"We'll enough." he shrugged. "Enough to travel, at least, and learn a little more about the universe."

Cole nodded in agreement. He vaguely recalled Z, if someone wafted a cigarette under his nose, a lot more would likely have come back in a rush, but he did recall why he'd met the man's ship. What was it called? The Whiskey? The Drinker? Cole shook his head softly and discarded the train of thought.

"I have to ask, but who," and-slash-or what, "is this?" he indicated to Navi.

"Navi?" He poked the creature with a finger, prodding it to grab hold and swing up into his hand. "He's my oldest friend. He's a puckmaren I found on Binpuka Minor."

Cole fished his small mediscanner from a pocket with a practised motion, "do you mind?" and he indicated again to the fascinating, bat-like creature. "Just for my curiosity?"

"It should be fine." Galen nodded.

Tapping the arm of his spectacles, the glass lit up with faint blue light as the HUD switched on. Cole hummed thoughtfully to himself as he ran the scanner over the little creature, making interested noises as the information flowed past his vision. "Fascinating, how old is, uh, Navi?"

"Around eight years." Galen exlplained. "He was pretty young when I found him."

“Well, I don’t exactly know what the baseline for the species is, but,” Cole shrugged, indicating that he figured the creature seemed pretty healthy. “I thought about getting a cat,” around the time I was leaving Nar Shaddaa, he recalled, “I thought I’d enjoy the company. Somehow I never got around to it.” With a double-tap, he turned the spectacles off, adjusting them on the bridge of his nose with his index finger before running his hand through his blonde curls.

"Pets can be difficult to care for, depending on your lifestyle." he shrugged. "Navi is small and doesn't require much attention. He's easy to travel with and I can leave him behind when I hunt. I suppose I could get something to hunt with, but I wouldn't want to endanger a pet."

Cole smoothly raised an eyebrow and adjusted his spectacles again, “you hunt? like animals?” The idea seemed odd and archaic to the surgeon; he’d been born on a ship and spent most of his life on them, for him animals had been the rare pet and occasional lab study.

Shrugging it off, “I’m a surgeon, I spend all my time in the medical bay or my quarters. I’d have plenty of time for a small pet.”

"We all have something we're good at." he smiled. "For me, it's hunting. There are plenty of people out there who want exotic pets, trophies or meals. Some of those people have more questionable motives than others, but I am selective in what I'll hunt."

Cole nodded and looked out at the blur of hyperspace, “if you’re here, you must be on someone’s payroll, right?” The vessel was, after all, Republic military. “Mind if I ask who, or is that need-to-know?”

"I'm not here to hunt." he shrugged. "There was a need for gunners and scouts and a friend suggested I might find something on Bankor. So, for the time being, I'm on the Republic payroll."

Cole eyed the other man carefully, “have you ever done any bodyguard work?”

"Some." he nodded. "I'm pretty observant. My rifle isn't as useful up close, but I have a few other options for those type of threats."

“I’ll know more once we’re boots on ground, but if you’re interested in a little pro bono work, I might have a job for you.” Cole pushed a hand through his hair, his expression grim, “full disclosure, I got my first bodyguard killed.”

He shrugged. "Sounds like an adventure. What are you going to be doing?"
