“No,” Cole’s eyes hardened and his tone darkened, “some were just crushed under the heel with no chance of resistance, and left to fend for themselves when their oppressors were gone.” His guarded expression had a sour turn about the corners of his mouth, he hadn’t been providing aid on propsperous, recovering war-torn planets.

"If you were there afterward to meet them, that isn't entirely true," she says with that possibly-irritating unruffled Jedi calm. "Where there's life, there's light, hidden though it might be."

Cole had fought hard for the creation of the wing of the so-called peacekeeping force he had until recently belonged to. It had been an uphill battle against risk assessment and cost analysis. Though Tethys was right, he resented the way her comment glossed over how near a thing it had been. He ran a hand through his hair and said nothing.

The Force, on the other hand, is often indifferent to near and far, to the occasional confusion and frustration of the smaller lives traversing its currents. Tethys continues leaning on the rail and looking out across the lake, unbothered by the pause in their conversation. She senses something of Cole's emotional turmoil, but pointing it out doesn't seem a likely remedy for it.

Finally, Cole pushed himself off the railing, ran a hand through his hair, and looked at Tethys, "thank you for your time." He began to walk away without anything further.

Tethys turns back, still half-leaning on the railing, but now with her hip instead of her hands. "Take care, Doctor," she says, with a nod of acknowledgement.
