"Thats how we did things when I was in the service. MAde you twice as combat effective when you were fighting sober." he said laughing

Niall chuckled, shaking his head. "I have to stay at least relatively sober. If I don't, who's going to wheel the rest of you lot back to your quarters?"

He turned his head, focusing on the work. Perhaps he'd speak with both of them later.

<Dofle fundo divp qipl vum cailein fim> Hamelin offers to Niall.
"I can carry them back Captain. Although it may be a little rough."

"Nice of you Hamelin, though it's likely the captain who will need carrying." Zane replied with a laugh.

"Really?" Tethys switches off her welder and stretches the kinks out of her neck. "I should have done more research after all, it seems. Thank you, that should stay if you let go of it now," she adds.

"I guess," she said as Layne released her grip.

Veeone helpfully arrived with the next pipe for this section. Placed it carefully on the ground and then stared at Layne . . . sorry, Patient Zero Zero One for a second as if about to say something. Obviously the droid's processors calculated a better plan as it moved off to collect the next pipe.

Tethys nods to Layne, shrugs her shoulders to loosen them a bit more, then picks up her spade and starts working to make sure the next pipe section is set on a properly firm and level footing before it can be joined. She's clearly not as well-conditioned for this kind of heavy work as Layne (let alone the indomitable V1 unit), but carries on stubbornly anyway.

<Eipem fuen epcil euclal piil cumoq> Hamelin asks. It is hard to tell if he is smirking or now with his respirator on and his insectoid face but it sounds like a joke.
"Is the captain a lightweight then? He should be easy to carry then."

"Quite the light weight." z offeres with a chuckle.

"If a persons weight was based off how much they can drink... You could carry him for days and not break a sweat."

<Osjde fiem vui> Hamelin replies.
"I don't have sweat glands to begin with."

"Raises in temperature cause a metabolic change of enzymatic response in Gand. The binding of enzyme substrate causes an immediate metabolic compensation, elevating the respiratory frequency of the organism. You should only take care of the fluidity of the phospholipid bilayer of membranes and the associated enzymes." Added the Mon cal to the conversation of the Gand and the human as she overheard Hamelin. "Just take care of your food intake. Arthropod organisms tend to overgrow in hot climates with high carbon dioxide."

Tethys huffs quietly as she nudges the pipe into a slightly better alignment. "I haven't done very much of anything like this since I made Padawan. The work is hotter than I remember," she comments to Layne, though it's obvious the younger Jedi is in better condition for this kind of heavy work than Tethys is.

Zane listened in as the doctor talked. Honestly he wasn't sure exactly what she was saying. "So, I think what the doctor is saying, is that it's time for a water break." He offered at last.

"Can't have our membranes dry out or anything like that."

Layne shrugged. In one way or another, she has always been pushing herself. This type of physical labor was relatively easy compared to the kind she'd done in the past.

"Isn't that big of a deal. Just got to do it."

The droid continued on, uncomplaining apart from perhaps one servo making a little more noise than the others.

Rekara turned up to the male, "refreshing is needed, yes." She said with a smile, a wide mouth smile that showed some small teeth. She handed some drinks from the water bottles that she had with her, a minor job that she had taken to herself since she was not good at labor work. "I have added some electrolytes to the refreshments to replenish and balance."

"Thanks, Darlin." z said to the Mon cal woman as she offered him a bottle of water. In his opinion work like this needed a beer, but it appeared that no one was going to offer up one of those. "That's kind of you."

Opening the cap he took along drink, his eyes scanning the other workers. This was good work. hopefully it wouldn't all go to waste if they liberated the city in the next couple of days.

"Well, choose to do it." Tethys pries a rock out of the way with her spade. "But you are right, somebody needed to. May as well be us." She tosses the rock up out of the trench, taking care not to bean anyone in the knees with it.

Tethys's lips twitch into a brief upward curve. "My old master would probably say something about how we decide for ourselves the range of choices that seem possible to us. And then commission me to write a report about it." Satisfied with the way the pipes are lining up, she flicks on her welder again.

"Refreshments are a nice reward after some hard work. I hope you two have not encountered too much trouble since last time."

"Your old master would be wrong. The number of times in life when we get to decide what the choices available are is very small for most people in the galaxy. Most people are just trying to get by while people whose choices matter more dictate their circumstances."
