"You'd think... Training with the Jedi?"

"Do you think they'd let me walk around this camp otherwise? Yes. Training with the Jedi."

"There are unaligned Force Sensitives around. But yeah, not in your situation if you weren't with them."

The whole thing was weird, and the coincidence of it all still didn't feel right. But Layne shrugged, and decided to just roll with it. She found a short set of steps leading into a nearby building just a few feet away, and sat down, rubbing her neck as she spoke.

"unaligned force sensitives huh? There's a few yeah."

She nodded. "Anything else I can clarify for you?"

"What'd you find out about him anyway, working for Baras? I can't imagine it was much, paranoid as he is. Not to mention all the lies."

"Anymore, I can't tell what I actually found out," she replied with a shake of her head. "Not a lot about him personally. Mostly stuff about his power structure and Sith internal politics."

"Sith will never let others know anything about them they don't *want* them to know in the first place. Because everyone else is either a tool to be used, or a threat to be dealt with, or both. Someone like Baras plans everything meticulously. Anything you'd have learned about him would be part of that. A trap."

"Yup," she agreed. "But that was the job."

"Hope you got paid a bonus," she said. "How did you say you managed to avoid getting taken out by assassins again? He must've sent *someone* after you."

"Fuck yes. Paid bonus and a year's mental health leave," she replied, shaking her head. She sighed. "If he has, I haven't seen them yet... That's more worrisome than an assassin would be."

"Perhaps he does not consider you a big enough loose end to tie up."

Unlikely. He ties them all up.

"Or perhaps he still has a use for you."

Like feeding false information to a Republic spy, then let her exfiltrate thinking she's got the goods.

"That last one is the part that's troubling," she replied with a sigh.

"Well... if you need it, you've got my help at least."

She sighed.

"I'm not exactly supposed to cherish feelings of revenge or anything, but there's few threats as big as Baras. I wouldn't mind frustrating his efforts by denying him the opportunity to use or end you."

She nodded. "I appreciate it. If anyone's worth taking down, it's him, but... Well, last time didn't turn out so well. It'd have to be thoroughly planned. I know some other people interested in helping, too."

"Of course you do," she shook her head. "I wasn't precisely talking about taking the big bad down, but I certainly wouldn't mind that either. I haven't exactly kept up to date on his movements, but I'm guessing that last job I did for him helped him move up even further in the Empire."

"He's the master of heads I win, tails you lose," she replied with a sigh. "So probably it did, but if you'd chosen different, he'd have a backup plan that would also lift him up further."

"Maybe so," she said, though she couldn't see any way that he'd have rectified the situation had she decided to tell the Voice everything.

Beware the Wrath of the Empire...

Something the force had foretold once more stuck out.

"...maybe so."

She looked over at her curiously. "Hmm?"

"Nothing. Just considering how past and future might be connected."

"What are your thoughts on that?"

"That they probably are," she said, avoiding the details thereof. "Would you not agree? Attunement to the Force tends to show one there are few coincidences."

"Yeah... I guess that's true," Luth sighed, a deeply resigned sound. "I should get going." She stood.

"Don't forget my offer," she said, raising herself up again and stretching. "I know I don't have that sparkling Deathwright personality or whatever, but I meant it."

She chuckled at that. "Don't worry, I won't."
